Hide the Hard Disk Capacity Bars

Windows has by default hard disk capacity indicator bars which tell you how much storage space you used on your hard disk, but many people don’t know you can actually turn these off, and it’s not even that hard to do.

WARNING

This tutorial includes steps which make use of the Regedit tool of Windows. Regedit can edit your Windows Registry which could result in unwanted results, including a corrupted Windows installations which might require you to reinstall your operating system. Starting Regedit

The first thing you’ll have to do is to start the Regedit program included in Windows, you can do this by following one of these three methods:

  1. Press the Windows and R key at the same time and type “regedit” and click on OK

  2. Press the Windows and W key at the same time and type “regedit” in the search box and press enter
  3. Press the Windows button and type “regedit” and hit enter.

 

Going to the Drive classes.

The next thing you’ll have to do is navigate through the Registry to the Drive class. It’s fairly easy to do even for people who using the registry for the first time.

  1. Unfold HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  2. Unfold Software
  3. Unfold Classes
  4. Click on Drive
  5. Right click TileInfo

  6. Click on Modify
  7. Remove System.PercentFull; from the line (DO NOT FORGET THE ; )

  8. Click on OK

The setting will be visible immediately, if you do not see them, restart the explorer service or reboot your system.   To restore these settings, add the text again after the first ” and the bar will be back.
