How Do I Disable / Enable System Sound Effects in Windows 10

Windows 10 comes with some nice sound effects for example the sound of an error, an information or critical error message box. Or a sound notification when you receive a nice notification like an Email. In this article we will answer the question: How Do I Disable / Enable System Sound Effects in Windows 10?

You can choose between two things.

 

I want to disable / enable the System sound effects in Windows 10 temporary.

You can disable the Sound Effects in Windows 10 temporary by going to the sound settings and turning down the volume of the System completely.

1. Right-click the Sound icon in your task bar as shown below.

2. Then choose Volume Mixer

3. If you want to disable System Sounds in Windows 10 then drag the volume bar down to zero. If you want to enable System Sounds in Windows 10 then drag the volume bar up to 100. In the image below the System Sounds are turned off. You could also click on the little speaker icon to mute System Sounds which is handy if you change your main volume multiple times.

 

 

 

 

I want to disable / enable the System sound effects in Windows 10 permanently

1. Open Control Panel. (Right-click the Start Menu button and then choose Control Panel)

2. Click on Appearance and Personalisation

3. Click on Change Sound Effects

 

 

4. Under Sound Scheme choose No Sounds. 

 

 

5. Click on OK.

 

All your System Sounds Effects in Windows 10 are now disabled permanently. If you want to enable them again simply repeat the first 3 steps and then choose Windows Default.
