How to Run CHKDSK in Windows 10

CHKDSK short for Check Disk checks the state of the hard drive and correct any errors it finds, if possible. It can be useful for troubleshooting read errors and other storage related errors. It has been in Windows for quite a time. There are multiple ways of starting CHKDSK in Windows 10, in this tutorial we will show you the 3 most common ways.

Run CHKDSK trough This PC.

1. Open File Explorer (Former known as Windows Explorer).

2. Click on This PC.

3. Right-click the Hard Disk you wish to run CHKDSK on.

4. Click on Properties

5. Click on Tools in the Properties window.

6. Under Error-Checking, click on Check.

CHKDSK Will now start to run on Windows 10.

Run CHKDSK trough Command Prompt

1. Open an elevated Command Prompt (Press the Windows + X button at the same time, then choose Command Prompt (Admin))

2. Type the following command, and replace the X with the drive letter you wish to scan: “CHKDSK X:”, we suggest you use “CHKDSK X: /F”, only then it can correct errors. 

3. Hit the enter key, Command Prompt will now start CHKDSK.

How to Run CHKDSK in Windows 10

Run CHKDSK from Cortana

1. Simply type the same command as you would type in Command Prompt, so CHKDSK X: /F and replace the X: with the drive letter you wish to scan.

2. Cortana will automatically start Command Prompt and Execute the command.
