FIX: The Proxy Server isn’t responding

1. First start Internet Explorer, then go the right side of the Window and click the cogwheel, then choose Internet Options

Internet Explorer: Internet Options
Internet Explorer: Internet Options

2. Then click the Connections tab, and click the LAN Settings button.

Internet Properties: LAN Settings
Internet Properties: LAN Settings

3. Check if the “Proxy Servercheckbox is marked with a check, click on it to uncheck it.

Internet Options: Proxy Settings
Internet Options: Proxy Settings

4. Click on OK

5. Click on OK

The error should now no longer appear, if it still does then check with your ISP that you do not need a proxy to connect to the internet.

I’m having the same problem with Widows 7 Professional and IE 11. When I uncheck the Proxy server box it just rechecks itself after I have closed the Internet Options and reopened it. Everything was working OK untill I un-installed some spam-type garbage software.

    You suck

      Hello Nunya

Thank you so much for your constructive feedback, this really helps us to make WindowsInstructed better for the future.

Perhaps if you had some decency and just asked us for help in a comment that we could have solved the problem for you. Next time you say “You suck” to a person remember that they (in this case me) tried to help you for free. When was the last time you helped a fellow human beign?

I hope your problem is solved anyway, and hope to never see you again.

I use norton. The virus scan picked up nothing but I think malware infected my computer. I was streaming a basketball game online and ads flooded my computer just before this proxy issue came up.

I can’t go to any websites or download adware using the computer because it won’t allow me to access the internet

      Hello Jessica

Could you download the software on another device and use a usb drive or cd-rom to execute the programs on the system giving you problems?

I had the same problem and this is what I found after several hours searching on the internet and it worked for me. Your computer has to be in the Safe Mode or the proxy setting will just keep resetting itself.
      1. Turn off your computer, and start it up again and keep pressing f8.
      2. you will get a set of options to choose and click on safe mode with networking {(I have windows 7 professional)}
3.Once everything is loaded up click on the windows button and type into the search bar INETCPL.CPL no caps
      4. go to connections> Lan settings> and now uncheck the box where it says proxy.
Restart your computer and it will be OK.
