Linking from one Word Document to another Word Document Heading

In this article, we will show you how to link from a word document to another word document and then especially a paragraph or heading within that document. The steps are quite easy and might help you organize documents easier.

The steps will also work for all other things you might want to link too, for example:

  • Linking to pictures
  • Linking to tables
  • Linking to SmartArt
  • ….and much more.

Step 1: Preparing the document you want to link too.

The first step you have to take is to go to the document you want to link too and choose the paragraph or heading you want to link too. Select the paragraph or heading and go to Insert and then Bookmark.

Once the bookmark window opens enter a name in the bookmark name field and then choose Add.

You can repeat the steps above for all the paragraphs, headings or other stuff you want to link too. Once done close the file.

Step 2: Adding the links

Once you’ve completed step 1 you can continue to add the links you want. You simply right-click the text in the document and click on Link.

Navigate to the file and click on it, then choose Bookmark. You should now see all the bookmarks you made in step 1 of this article. Choose the bookmark you want to link too and click on OK, then click on OK again.
